Z.L. Taylor died Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2000, at the East Texas Medical Center in Pittsburg, Texas, after a long period of declining health and medical problems. He was 77.
Memorial services were held Friday at the First Assembly of God Church in Pittsburg. Visitation was at the Erman Smith Funeral Home in Pittsburg on the day of the funeral.
Mr. Taylor was born Sept. 13, 1922, in Pine, Texas. He served in the Army Air Force as a flight engineer during World War II.
After military service, he worked in oil production in east Texas. From the late 1950s into the '70s he resided in New Iberia, La., and was employed by service companies working inland and in the Gulf of Mexico.
2He worked in Trinidad in the '70s, then moved to Soldotna to enjoy his final working years. He returned to his childhood home in Pittsburg for retirement.
His family said: "He was a hard-working, loving husband and father who never hesitated to sacrifice for the benefit of his family. He fought hard as his health declined. He drew closer to God and looked forward to his future home."
Mr. Taylor is survived by his wife of 52 years, Bettye Taylor, of Pittsburg; brother Joe Taylor, of New Iberia; sister Ruth Rutledge, of Pittsburg; son and daughter-in-law Rick and Sandra Taylor, of Soldotna; son and daughter-in-law Jody and Fonda Taylor, of New Iberia; grandchildren Zak Logan and Mariel Taylor, of Soldotna, and Chloe and Job Taylor, of New Iberia.
Arrangements were made by Erman Smith Funeral Home in Pittsburg.
