Changes in economy standards are a better practice at pump

Regarding the billions of dollars being given to big oil giants in the newly signed energy bill: These companies are making huge profits. Why are we giving them free money? The bill does nothing to reduce our dependence on foreign oil or to lower gas prices. Has anyone else noticed the rise in gas at the pump this week?

Raising fuel economy standards by only 3 mpg would accomplish the same thing as drilling in ANWR. It would bring results sooner than the 10-year projection for ANWR, and it would save the wild places and the wild things that rely on them for future generations.
