Kidnap charges dropped

Woman voluntarily weds Sterling man

Posted: Wednesday, August 17, 2005

Kidnapping charges filed against a Sterling man charged with kidnapping a 28-year-old mentally disabled woman have been dismissed.

The Kenai district attorney's office dropped kidnapping charges against Mark Coulter, 42, who was originally arrested after he and a 28-year-old woman from Soldotna eloped in Cooper Landing earlier this month.

Coulter was arrested after the woman's family reported her missing. The woman left without informing her guar-dians of her decision, and they did not approve of the marriage.

However, Kenai District Attorney June Stein determined the kidnapping charges weren't warranted because the woman voluntarily went with Coulter.
