Old-timers lunch set

The Old-Timers’ annual reunion will be held at 11:30 a.m. today a the Kenai Senior Citizens Center. Soup and coffee will be served at 11:30 a.m. and a turkey dinner at noon. The cost is $5 for those over 60. Preregistration is helpful but not required. For more information, call 283-4156.

Chili contest planned

The 14th annual chili cook-off will be held in conjunction with Industry Appreciation Day on Aug. 26. The deadline to register is Wednesday. Up to four members are allowed on a team. For more information and contest rules, call Pat Porter at 252-5992.

Play auditions set

The Kenai Performers will hold auditions for its Sudden Theater, a series of 10-minute plays, from 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 25 at the playhouse. Older teens and adults may audition. For more information, contact Susan at 262-8502 or fourdancingshoemakers@att.net.

Food bank fundraiser planned

The Kenai Peninsula Food Bank will hold its 10th annual Soup Supper and Auction at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 26 in the cafeteria at Kenai Central High School. The cost is $40. Tickets are available at the food bank.

Fraternity to celebrate anniversary

Beta Sigma Phi of the Central Peninsula will celebrate the 75th anniversary of its organization from 2 to 5 p.m. Aug. 27 at Etta Mae Near’s home at 37305 Lancashire Lane in Soldotna. The reunion is open to past and present members. For more information, call 260-6401.

Head Start begins enrollment

Sterling Head Start next to Cook's Tesoro on the Sterling Highway is accepting applications for its preschool program. School begins Sept. 5. Radiothon set to go

The 22nd annual KSRM/ LeeShore radiothon fundraiser will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 11 on KSRM radio 92 AM. Cash and in-kind donations pledged during the fundraiser will support the LeeShore Center's services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault and the agency's community and school prevention programs. Pledges may be made during the radiothon or by mailing them to the LeeShore Center, 325 S. Spruce St., Kenai, AK 99611.

School supplies sought

Blessings Galore, a nonprofit clothing closet, is holding a back-to-school drive for school supplies. Donations of backpacks, glue (sticks and regular), scissors, pens, pencils, notebooks (spiral and binders), socks (all sizes), underwear (packaged), notebook paper, erasers, rulers, etc., will be given out free of charge to families who are in need. Items may be dropped off between 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at College Heights Baptist Church at 44440 Kalifornsky Beach Road in Soldotna.
