Habitat for Humanity holds garage sale

Habitat for Humanity will hold a garage sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Habitat for Humanity Warehouse on the Kenai Spur Highway near Wildwood. Building, remodeling, construction materials, interior and exterior doors and cabinets are available.

River raft parade set to float

Sterling will hold its 28th annual Moose River Raft Parade at 1 p.m. Saturday. Build a raft and bring it to Pooler's Landing at 12:30 p.m. and float the Moose River to the bridge and take out at Isaak Walton Park. A barbecue and family fun activities will follow at Bing Brown's at 4 p.m. Entry fees for the parade are $10. Proceeds go to the Way Out Women's Program (WOW) on the Kenai Peninsula.

AARP to hold driver safety program

American Association of Retired Persons will hold a driver safety program from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sunday at the Cook Inlet Aquaculture Center on Kalifornsky Beach Road. For more information, call Dennis Gease at 252-9291.

Basketball registration opens

Registration for the Boys and Girls Club first and second grade co-ed basketball league starts from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. The deadline to register is Aug. 24. Practice begins the week of Sept. 10. Games start Sept. 24 and continue through Oct. 27. For more information, call the Kenai Boys and Girls Club at 283-2682

KPC closure scheduled

Kenai Peninsula College's Kenai River Campus in Soldotna will be closed to the public Monday for faculty and staff meetings.

College opens new MAPTS building

Kenai Peninsula College (KPC) invites the public to a ribbon cutting ceremony for its new $3 million Mining and Petroleum Training Services facility at 3 p.m. Thursday at the Kenai River Campus in Soldotna. KPC's annual welcome back barbecue will follow the ceremony from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The ceremony and barbecue are being held in conjunction with the first day of general walk-in registration for the fall semester. Walk-in registration will continue from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 24. Online registration at www.kpc.alaska.edu continues through Aug. 25. Fall semester classes begin Aug. 27.

College council meeting scheduled
