ANCHORAGE (AP) -- An accidental shooting killed a Trapper Creek girl in her home Friday afternoon.
Kimberly Olson, 13, died as emergency medical personnel rushed her by helicopter to a hospital.
Alaska State Troopers said the girl's father, Nansen Olson, 55, made an emergency call on the shooting just after 1:30 p.m. Friday.
A 17-year-old boy was reportedly cleaning a revolver in the home and was unaware that it was cocked. After he finished cleaning the .41-caliber revolver, it discharged.
Kimberly Olson was in a loft above. The bullet struck her in the lower left kidney area, troopers said.
Olson's father performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation until medical personnel arrived in an Era Aviation helicopter. Medics continued resuscitation procedures while in flight, but the girl died before she could be transferred to an air ambulance.
Trapper Creek is about 115 highway miles north of Anchorage.
