Governor to hold town hall meeting today

Gov. Frank Murkowski will hold a town hall meeting from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the Soldotna Sports Center. His topic will be the state’s new oil tax structure, and what it means for the future of the Kenai Peninsula.

The cities of Soldotna and Kenai, and the Soldotna and Nikiski chambers of commerce will host the meeting.

Food drive revving up at motorcross races

The Kenai Peninsula Racing Lions will hold a food drive night at the motorcross race at 7 p.m. Saturday at Twin Cities Raceway on the Kenai Spur Highway. Time trials begin at 6 p.m. Adults may bring one can of food to attend for a discounted price of $5.

Admission for children and seniors with one can of food is $3. Food donations will benefit the Kenai Peninsula Food Bank.

Boys and girls club plans weeklong closure

The Boys and Girls Clubs of the Kenai Peninsula Kenai Clubhouse will be closed Monday through Aug. 27. Beginning Aug. 28 the club will be open after school until 6 p.m. for members.

CPHC board to meet

Central Peninsula Counseling Services will hold a board of directors meeting at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at 506 Lake St. in Kenai. It is open to the public.
