Kenai netters open by spiking Seahawks

The Kenai Central High School volleyball team needed five games, but the Kardinals were able to pull out a 3-2 victory over Seward in a nonregion game Saturday at Kenai.

The Kardinals won the first game 15-11 and took the second game 15-9 before Seward recovered to win the third game 15-8 and the fourth game 15-11. Kenai won the decisive final game 15-4.

Kenai's Shamra Bauder served for six points in game five, while Angelica Carreon served up points 13, 14 and 15 for the win.

Amy Fischer had 31 assists and four saves for the Kardinals, while Erica Shinn had five blocks, four saves and nine kills, Laura Rhyner had 13 kills, Bauder had four aces and seven digs and Carreon had four aces and 15 kills.

Kenai's next matches will be at the Homer Jamboree Friday and Saturday.

SEAHAWKS 3, KNIGHTS 1

Seward defeated Colony 15-6, 15-12, 14-16, 15-11 in a nonregion game Friday in Seward.
