A 35-year-old Florida man died in a single-vehicle accident early Wednesday morning near the junction of the Sterling and Seward highways.
Joseph D. Jones of Lakeland, Fla., was ejected from the 1988 Honda Accord he had been driving from the Summit Lake Lodge, where he worked, toward Cooper Landing.
According to Alaska State Troopers, Jones had been at a party at the lodge, where he had consumed alcohol prior to driving.
As he exited the southbound Seward Highway toward the Sterling Highway at about 12:30 a.m., Jones apparently lost control of his car, and it rolled.
Troopers were not able to determine if he had been wearing a seat belt. The car caught fire after the crash and burned.
Medics responded from Cooper Landing and declared Jones dead at the scene.
