Soldotna resident Douglas MacArthur Young died of natural causes Saturday, Aug. 11, 2007, at his home. He was 65.

Mr. Young was born Feb. 9, 1942, to James Oley and Nora Ashton Breeden Young in Huntington, W.V. He moved to Alaska in December 1981, and lived in Soldotna. He was self-employed and was known as "The Reel Doctor" around town. He loved fishing, painting, writing poetry and music, travel and most recently, genealogy.
"Douglas was a man so loved by all who knew him. He was certain to put a smile on your face and love in your heart. His family will honor his wishes and remember him for the love he gave and the times they shared," his family said.
Mr. Young was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Wilma, Bernice, Opal, Helen, Bob, Bill, James Oley Jr., Don, Nora Rachael, and Mary Elizabeth; mother-in-law, Mattie Johnson; great-grandson, Aydon Shane Lucas-Vickers; and daughter, Nancy Emily Young.
He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Hilda Young of Soldotna; siblings, Myron Young and his wife, Paris, of Soldotna and Curtis Young of Soldotna; sons, Lloyd Douglas Young and his wife, Tracey, of Soldotna, Michael Allen Young and his wife, Christy, of Ona, W.V., and Earl Skura and his fiance, Michele of Soldotna; daughters, Dreama Lynn Whitlock and her husband, Marcus, of Hungtington, Angela Johnson of N.C., Viola Skura of Anchorage and Mattie "Jeanie" Skura of Soldotna; granddaughters, Tosha Hill of Milton, W.V., Jordan Laprad of Soldotna, Ashley Vickers of Huntington, Prissilla Skura of Soldotna and Siera Skura of Wasilla; grandsons, Aydon Skura of Soldotna, Justin Laprad of Ohio, Christopher Elving of Anchorage, Joshua Laprad of Ohio, Derek Young and Jason Green of Huntington, Bryan Young and Kenneth Young of Ona and Christopher Skura and Stephen Skura of Soldotna; great-grandson, Riley Cole Lucas-Vickers of Huntington, Samuel and Trenton Skura of Soldotna and Jacob Hill of Milton; and former spouse and mother of Lloyd, Michael, and Dreama, Dreama Young of Milton.
Arrangements were made by Peninsula Memorial Chapel in Kenai.
