Seward girls win their own invite

The Seward girls won their own invitational on Saturday, beating second-place Wasilla by one point at the 10-team Seward Invite cross country meet.

The Seahawks' Denali and Rubye Foldager placed first and second, respectively, with times of 20:10.01 and 20:17.87 while Kenai's Molly Watkins took third with a time of 20:44.92 and Skyview's Ivy O'Guinn claimed fourth with a time of 21:00.11.

Cook Inlet Academy's Holly Kopp (21:17.11) placed sixth and Seward's Allison Barnwell (21:30.09) finished seventh.

Colony edged Heritage Christian by two points to claim the boys title, with Seward placing third and Skyview taking fourth.

Michael Stewart of Heritage Christian won the boys race with a time of 17:11.42, Colony's Antone Zagers placed second with a time of 17:15.98 and Wasilla's Jimmy Sliwa (17:25.36) took third.

The Panthers' Tommy Honer was the highest boys finisher from the Kenai Peninsula, placing fifth with a time of 17:41.86. CIA's Josh Holly finished sixth with a time of 17:57.80 and Seward's Travis Price (18:02.22) and Matt Nyholm (18:03.65) placed eighth and ninth, respectively.

Homer competes in Bartlett Relays

The Homer A team placed 40th and the Mariners' C team finished 58th at the Bartlett Relays on Saturday.

The A team finished with a time of 52:29.5 while the C team ended up with a time of 54:38.5.

Homer's B team finished 63rd with a time of 55:00.9.

Individual lap finishers for the Mariner girls included Lindsay Henkleman (14:30.6) in 89th; Maggie McCarron (14:33.4) in 91st; Anna Duz (14:33.9) in 92nd; Brit Wyatt (14:53.7) in 111th; Hallie Hudson (15:18.4) in 122nd; Jody Gaines (15:35.7) in 132nd; and Kelsey Haas (27:51.2) in 207th.

For the Homer boys, Garrett McCarthy (11:28.8) finished in 60th place; Tyler Haas (11:53.4) took 91st; Patrick Schneider (11:58.3) placed 95th; Will Jasper (12:18) finished 117th; Cody Gaines (12:30.8) took 131st; and Oshi Wills (12:33.9) finished 135th.
