Children's Spectacular proves to be fun for kids, volunteers

The Children's Spectacular at 2002 Progress Days was great fun, both for the children who enjoyed free egg and spoon races, Gunnysack races, potato races, yardstick golf and beanbag toss, and for the volunteers.

Bridges Community Resource Center Inc. thanks Wells Fargo Bank -- Soldotna, Spenard Builders Supply, McDonald's, Jane and Dave Stein, Patricia Muir and Joan Crow-Epps for their contributions. We express our sincere thanks and appreciation to the volunteers who made the event possible: Andrea Gensel, Dan and Kathy Gensel, Patricia Muir, Sherry Spence, Jane and Dave Stein and Helen Therrieult.

VFW Ladies Auxiliary appreciates work of CIA girls basketball team

On behalf of the members of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, I'd like to thank Pixie Smith, the girls of the Cook Inlet Academy basketball team and their parents who assisted in cleaning up our mile of the Sterling Highway on July 25.

It's great to see young people being involved in doing community service work, carrying on the tradition of service organizations such as the VFW Ladies Auxiliary throughout the years.

Business donation help send 19 athletes to football camp

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Unocal of Kenai for its donation of $500 to help pay for 19 young men from Kenai Central High School to attend football camp this summer. The trip was very fun and worthwhile not only from a football standpoint but also from an educational standpoint.

Once again, thank you to Unocal of Kenai for its generosity and obvious interest in the most valuable asset of our community -- the young kids.
