Melinda 'Starlene' Goff

Longtime Nikiski resident Melinda “Starlene” Goff died Sunday, Aug. 13, 2006, at her home in Nikiski. She was 54.

Memorial services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 19, at the Lighthouse Community Church in Nikiski. Pastor Denver Copeland will officiate.

Mrs. Goff was born Aug. 13, 1952, in Lynwood, Calif. She moved from California to Alaska in 1966. She attended Kenai Junior High and graduated from Kenai Central High School in 1971. That same year she married Martin Goff and they lived in Nikiski, where they built a home near Daniel’s Lake in 1976. They raised their four children there and Mrs. Goff lived there until her death.

“Starlene’s joys in life were her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed sewing and took great pleasure in making items for the the LeeShore Center. Her membership with the Lighthouse Community Church and companionship and friendships of the other members was a great source of comfort and support during times of personal trials. Starlene was a very giving, caring person and a born-again Christian who loved the Lord. There will be a huge void in the lives of her children and family who will miss her wonderful smile and infectious laugh,” her family said.

Mrs. Goff was preceded in death by her father, Stanley Best.

She is survived by her daughter and son in-law, Gloria and Bobby Martin of North Carolina; sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Aubrey Goff of Kenai, Jason and Sule Goff of Kentucky and Jeremy Goff of Nikiski; grandchildren, Amelia Martin of North Carolina and Nathaniel and Adrianna Goff, both of Kenai; numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews of Kenai, Sterling and Palmer; and best friend, Diane Friend of Nikiski.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Lighthouse Community Church, 50939 Kenai Spur Highway, Nikiski, AK 99611.

Arrangements were made by Peninsula Memorial Chapel in Kenai.
