Skyview's Albert White pulls down a pass intended for Sitka's Alex Kernin in the second quarter Thursday. The Panthers won the nonconference game 35-12.

Those takeaways keyed the win, Panthers head coach Eric Pomerleau said.

"We have some fine-skilled kids," he said. "If you leave the ball up in the air too long, we have a good chance to come down with it."

Linebacker Joeben Hawkins led the defense, Pomerleau said. He said Hawkins was involved in several tackles throughout the game.

"I thought Joeben Hawkins played outstanding," Pomerleau said.

Despite fighting an illness, Richard Reynolds led SkyHi with 112 yards receiving and a touchdown. Cody Williams rushed for 110 yards and a score. Quarterback Jordan Jones threw for 263 yards and three touchdowns.

The offensive line played a crucial role, Pomerleau said.

"The O line came together and let us be athletes," he said. "That's what we need."

A 50-yard touchdown reception by Sitka's RJ Miguel cut Skyview's lead to 21-12 to start the fourth quarter. The Panthers needed just six plays and two minutes to answer back. Keeping the ball on the ground the entire drive, Williams and Jason Sounveri marched Skyview 61 yards, with Williams taking in a 7-yard run for the score. After the touchdown, the Panthers led 28-12. Sounveri added an 8-yard touchdown run at the 4:25 mark on the first play after Jones picked off Kegan Widmier to put the game out of reach for Sitka.

"We responded with a score," Pomerleau said. "It was awesome."

The Wolves' fourth-quarter touchdown didn't faze Skyview, Pomerleau said.

"We didn't get scared," he said. "We just came down and got back in the game and put them away."

Albert White led SkyHi with two interceptions. Also recording picks were Jones, Williams and Nick Symonds. Four plays after his second interception, White and Jones connected for an 80-yard touchdown strike with under a minute to play in the half. Skyview took a 21-6 lead to the locker room.

Jones found Reynolds on a 44-yard pass for the game's first score at the 7:25 mark of the opening quarter. Jones then found Symonds over the middle on a 14-yard touchdown pass less than two minutes into the second quarter.

Ryne Sorenson took a 17-yard run in for Sitka's first score of the game with 3:01 to play in the half. White found the end zone just over two minutes later.
