SEWARD (AP) -- Bill Bixby caught the largest fish on the first day of the Seward Silver Salmon Derby. It remained the largest when the 45th annual derby ended at noon Sunday.
The Soldotna angler received a $10,000 grand prize for the 20.14-pound coho he reeled in at the head of Resurrection Bay on Aug. 12.
Keith Harjehausen of Anchorage placed second with an 18.33-pound fish and pocketed $5,000. Ron Aikens, also of Anchorage, came home $2,500 richer for his third-place catch of 17.69 pounds.
Organizers said it was only the second time in derby history that the winning fish exceeded 20 pounds.
Cash prizes were paid to the top 12 places.
