KETCHIKAN (AP) -- An off-duty Ketchikan police officer was charged with assault for allegedly striking a 15-year-old boy, police said.
Sgt. Lance Waldren is charged with fourth-degree assault and first-degree criminal trespass, both misdemeanors.
He is accused of entering the home of a 15-year-old boy on July 18 where he believed his 13-year-old daughter was after she failed to return home. Waldren is alleged to have entered the home without permission and struck the boy.
Ketchikan Police Chief Grant Sirevog said the department will conduct an internal investigation after the criminal case concludes.
Waldren remains on paid administrative leave while the case proceeds.
