North chamber to host BP speaker

The North Peninsula Chamber of Commerce is meeting at the North Kenai Baptist Church. Paul Richards, with British Petroleum, will speak today. The luncheon starts at noon. It is open to the public.

Central Peninsula Health Centers meeting slated

The Central Peninsula Centers regular monthly meeting will be held today, beginning at 5: 30 p.m. at the Cottonwood Health Center. The center is at 170 E. Corral St. in Soldotna.

First aid, CPR classes planned

Weekly classes on basic first aid and CPR will be offered by the American Red Cross. To register for the classes today and Thursday from 6 to 10 p.m. call 262-4541 or e-mail class@

The classes will be held at the Cook Inlet Aquaculture Building on Kalifornsky Beach Road. The cost is $65.

Interpretive Programs offered

Anchorage artist Artemis BonaDea will discuss bookbinding as an art form in a bookbinding workshop today from 3 to 4 p.m.

In celebration of Alaska Heritage Day, Amber Glenzel of the Kenaitze Indian Tribe will share the findings of the Kalifornsky Village archaeological dig. It will be held Friday from 3 to 4 p.m.

These programs will be held at the Kenai Visitors and Cultural Center in Kenai.

KPC to hold registration, barbecue

General public walk-in registration for Kenai Peninsula College's fall 2002 semester will be 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday. KPC will have a community barbecue from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday.

Area business owner to speak at workshop

The Kenai Peninsula Small Business Development Center will sponsor a workshop, "Unlocking the Door to Business Planning: A Planning Model," from 1 to 4 p.m. Aug. 29 at the Red Diamond Center, Suite 16. Connie Gatling, owner of Mail Boxes Etc., will be the featured speaker. Cost is $15.

Toastmasters meeting planned

For people interested in improving public speaking and leadership skills, a meeting will be held Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Soldotna Middle School library. No commitment is necessary.

Vision specialist to visit senior center

The Independent Living Center will offer a workshop on low vision at 1 p.m. Sept. 3 at the Nikiski Senior Citizens Center. John Clare, vision specialist, will provide information on the most common causes of vision loss and strategies for coping. After the presentation, attendees will be invited to sample various low vision aids.
