Disabled vets to meet

The Disabled American Veterans will hold its monthly meeting at 6 p.m. today at the former NAPA building in Kenai. For more information, call Glen at 283-4359.

Kenai Public Health offers immunizations

The Kenai Public Health Clinic will hold extended hours for back-to-school immunizations. Clinic hours are from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 to 4 p.m., with an evening clinic set for 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday. Kenai immunization clinics are Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays and run through Tuesday, with a Wednesday clinic set from 1:30 to 4 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. only.

Kenai Public Health also will hold immunization clinics in Soldotna at the Elks Lodge at 44560 Parkway from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 to 4 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. An Aug. 28 clinic is planned from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 to 4 p.m.

The clinic will return to its normal schedule the first week of September. The clinic will be closed Sept. 1 for Labor Day. For more information, call 335-3400.

Refuge hosts nature walks

The Kenai National Wildlife Refuge will host a series of nature walks this month. All nature walks begin at 11 a.m., are 20- to 30-minutes long and will take place at the refuge. The round-trip walking distance is one-half mile.

On Fridays, "A Hunter's Heart," about the life of Andrew Berg, will be presented, along with a tour of the cabin he built in 1935. On Saturdays, "From Lupines to Leaches," a glimpse of unexpected plants and animals, will be viewed as the tour winds through the forest and wetland habitats. On Sundays, the nature walk, "Those Amazing Moose," will take place. There will be hands-on activities that highlight the adaptations of moose.

Participants are asked to wear comfortable walking shoes and leave pets at home. For more information, call 262-7021.

Medical fund-rasier planned

A dinner and outcry auction to assist Soldotna resident Paul Hecht with medical bills will begin at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Soldotna Elks Lodge. The auction begins at 8 p.m. The cost of dinner is $20. Donations can be made at the First National Bank in Soldotna. For more information, call Dave Carey at 262-9107.

KDLL schedules board meeting

KDLL-FM Public Radio will meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the Economic Development District building, three miles north of Kenai. The public is invited.

Residents invited to open gym

The Kenai Boys and Girls Club will hold open gym from 6:30 to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday. The gym is open for all ages. There is a $2 fee. For more information, call 283-2682.

Dog classes slated at PenDOG

Fall classes will start in September at Peninsula Dog Obedience Group in Soldotna. Planned classes include beginning, intermediate, advanced and competition obedience and agility and an introduction to retriever work. Puppy kindergarten meets weekly and is always open to new students. For more information or to sign up, call 262-6846.
