Tenants wanted for senior apartments

The Nikiski Senior Citizens Center is accepting names of interested seniors who want to move into a senior housing building that is planned to be built beginning this spring next to Marie Lake in Nikiski.

Occupancy would be available in the fall or winter of 2006. To sign up or for more information, call 776-7654.

College plans barbecue

The Kenai River Campus of Kenai Peninsula College will hold a community “welcome back” barbecue to kick off the school year from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday on campus behind the Goodrich and McLane buildings.

There will be free food and entertainment in conjunction with the first day of general walk-in registration for the fall semester. Walk-in registration continues through 5 p.m. Friday. Online registration at www.kpc.alaska.edu also continues through Friday.

The first day of classes is Aug. 29.

Kids’ basketball league forming

The Kenai Boys and Girls Club is accepting registration for its first- and second-grade basketball league through Friday. The season runs Sept. 12 through Oct. 29. The basketball fee is $50 and participants must be members of the Boys and Girls Club. Scholarships are available.

Registration forms may be downloaded off the Internet from www.positiveplaceforkids.com and can be dropped off between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. through Friday. Forms also can be faxed to 283-8190 with a credit card number or mailed with a postmark of Friday. For more information, call 283-2682.

Boys and Girls Club auction slated

The Boys and Girls Clubs of the Kenai Peninsula will have its 18th annual auction fund-raiser at 5 p.m. Sept. 10 at the Soldotna Sports Center. The theme is “Seven Clubs — One Vision” and celebrates the peninsula clubs in Homer, Kenai, the Kenai Teen Center, Nikiski, Seldovia, Seward and Soldotna. The cost is $35 per person or $400 to reserve a table of seven and program recognition. Tickets are available at the Kenai Boys and Girls Club and from any club member. The event includes a steak dinner, live and silent auctions and prizes.

EMS benefit dinner set

American Legion Ninilchik Post No. 18 will host its fifth annual EMS benefit dinner at 6 p.m. Sept. 10 at Ninilchik Fairgrounds. For more information, call William Fisher at (907) 567-3918.
