Former Anchorage resident Laura Ruth Shirnberg died Saturday, Aug. 12, 2000, in Arlington, Texas. She was 70.
Funeral services were held in the chapel at Anchorage Funeral Home on Wednesday. Burial followed at Fort Richardson National Cemetery where her husband is buried.
She was born Sept. 25, 1929, in Dallas, Texas. She was a graduate of Texas Woman's College in Denton, Texas, and relocated to Anchorage in 1956, where she taught in the Anchorage school system.
She met and married lifelong Alaskan Robert R. Shirnberg and soon gave up teaching to raise a family of seven in Kenai and Anchorage.
She loved doll making and crafts and received numerous awards for different competitions.
"Laura left Anchorage for Texas in 1998 but always considered Alaska home. She was loved very much and will be greatly missed," the family said.
She is survived by her siblings, William McLaughlin, Alice Frazier, Patricia Yates, Martha Watson and Richard McLaughlin; her children and their families, Robert R. Shirnberg II, William Shrinberg, Ann Shirnberg, Scott and Donna Shrinberg and daughter Rheaona, Bonnie and Kevin Carlson and children Britta and Milo, Sharon and Ron Lyons and children Keaton and Dillon, and Richard and Faye Shirnberg and children Richard, Michaela and Trevor.
Arrangements were made by Anchorage Funeral Home.
