NEW YORK -- Vickie Johnson scored 22 points and the New York Liberty advanced to their third straight WNBA Eastern Conference finals with a 72-61 victory over the Miami Sol on Tuesday night.
Crystal Robinson added 16 points for the Liberty, who went to the limit in winning the best-of-three series and will face the Charlotte Sting in the conference finals on Friday. The Liberty, the two-time defending conference champions, shot 46 percent from the field against the defense-oriented Sol.
Elena Baranova and Sandy Brondello had 18 points each for Miami, an expansion team last season. Tamika Whitmore added eight points and six rebounds for the Liberty, who improved to 14-4 at home before a crowd of 15,750 at Madison Square Garden.
