JUNEAU (AP) -- The Coast Guard cutter Anthony Petit saved a charter boat that was in jeopardy of sinking.
The Coast Guard in Ketchikan said crewmembers aboard the cutter heard a plea for assistance on a VHF radio shortly after 6 p.m. Monday.
The call indicated that the 28-foot vessel Fish N Fool was grounded, a hole was punctured in its hull and it was taking on water.
A Coast Guard team arrived on the scene and used patches and plugs to seal the hole in the hull. The vessel was then pumped out.
The charter boat was towed safely to Auke Bay and arrived about 13 hours after the Coast Guard heard the radio call.
