Art show soliciting pieces

Area artists are invited to submit an entry for the third annual Harvest Art Show, sponsored by Planned Parenthood of Alaska at the Kenai Fine Arts Center. Artists may submit works in any media, together with a one paragraph biography, to the center at 816 Cook Ave. in Kenai. Entries may be taken directly to the center between Monday and Aug. 31 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. For more information, call 262-2622.

Entries accepted for photography show

Entries are being accepted for "Alaska Positive 2002," a juried exhibition of Alaska photography sponsored by the Alaska State museum in Juneau. Entries must be received at the museum by 4:30 p.m. Sept. 5. The exhibition will remain at the museum through Feb. 16. A statewide tour will follow.

Cash raffle to be held

The board of directors for the Pratt Museum is holding a jackpot cash raffle to raise about $20,000 for the museum. Tickets are $100 each. Only 350 tickets will be sold. The grand prize of $10,000 will be given to the holder of the last ticket drawn. Second prize, the second to last ticket drawn, will receive $1,000. The holders of the 100th, 200th and 300th tickets drawn will win $500 each. Ten prizes of $250 for the first, 25th, 50th, 75th, 125th, 150th, 175th, 225th, 250th and 275th tickets drawn also will be awarded. The drawing will be held live at a dessert potluck at the museum at 7 p.m. Sept. 6. Ticket holders need to be present to win. All profits from the raffle will go to support the museum. Donated art needed for Pratt show

The Pratt Museum is seeking donated entries for the "Ritz2002 Art Show." The show will be on display at the museum from Sept. 27 through Nov. 2. Anchorage artist Steve Gordon will critique the artwork and selecting several pieces to be awarded prizes. The Pratt Museum will display all donated artwork in the show. All pieces must be at the museum by Sept. 20. Entries submitted by Aug. 30 are eligible to be selected in the invitation cover art. The show's gala and auction will be held Nov. 2 at the museum. Writing classes offered through UAA

The University of Alaska Anchorage is offering three creative writing classes in its fall semester. A one-credit column writing class teaching opinion, art and humor column writing will be held Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. from Sept. 7-21. A one-credit poetry writing workshop will be held Thursdays from 6 to 9 p.m. A fiction writing workshop will be held Thursdays from 5:30 to 8:15 p.m. For more information, call (907) 786-4330.
