Due to a reporting error, a story in Wednesday's Peninsula Clarion about Kenai Peninsula Borough school board action related to an Association of Alaska School Boards resolution on the Pledge of Allegiance was incorrect.
The board voted 4-3 in favor of the resolution to encourage Alaska school boards to incorporate the pledge as part of each district's daily activities.
Those voting in favor of the resolution were Margaret Gilman, Debra Mullins, Nels Anderson and Al Poindexter.
Those voting no were Sammy Crawford, Deb Germano and Joe Arness.
The AASB resolution states: "The Association of Alaska School Boards encourages school boards to incorporate the Pledge of Allegiance to our nation's flag as a regular part of each district's daily activities. AASB further urges that every effort be made to inform students of the true meaning of this pledge to deepen their interest and understanding of citizenship and civic responsibility in a democratic society."
The district's policy on patriotic exercises states: "The School Board encourages activities that instill pride in our country. The Pledge of Allegiance shall be recited or patriotic exercises conducted each day."
The Clarion regrets the error.
