ANCHORAGE (AP) Three people died and five others injured in a crash on the Seward Highway, less than a week after another collision in the area killed three people, Alaska State Troopers said Thursday.
Feodor Fefelov, 45, of Homer, died Wednesday night in the collision near mile 74, south of Girdwood. Two Israeli nationals, ages 21 and 22, also died in the crash, but troopers would not release their names until relatives were notified.
Troopers said Fefelov was northbound when he drove his Chevrolet pickup truck over the double yellow line onto the southbound fast lane in a no-passing zone. The Israeli nationals were in that lane and swerved into the slow lane at the same time Fefelov did, slamming into their car.
All three died at the scene. Five passengers in the truck suffered moderate to serious injuries, troopers said. Among them was Akilina Murachev, 1, who received minor injuries after being ejected along with her child safety seat.
Three others died Friday after their car hydroplaned across the highway near mile 73 in rainy conditions and slammed into an incoming motorhome.
