SoHi begins fall pool hours

The Soldotna High School pool hours will be morning lap swim from 6 to 8 a.m. Mondays through Fridays, evening lap swim from 6 to 7 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and open swim from 7 to 8:45 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

The pool will hold swim lessons beginning Sept. 9. Lesson registration begins Monday. For more information, call 262-7878.

Used book sale planned

Volunteers at the Soldotna Public Library will hold a used book sale fundraiser from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at 235 Binkley Street. The library accepts donations of books and puzzles in good condition. For more information, call 262-4227.

Skyview open house set

Community dance set to entertain

Kenai River Folk Dancers and Homer Contradancers will host a contradance from 7:30 to 11 p.m. Sept. 6 at the Ninilchick fairgrounds.

The California band "Hillbillies from Mars" will play. Halfway through the dance there will be a half-hour rockabilly interlude.

There will be music workshops offered for guitar, fiddlle, keyboard, mandolin, flute and ensembles from 4 to 6 p.m. The cost for workshops is $15 per person. Admission price for the dance is $10 per person.

A pot-luck dinner will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tent camping will be available. For more information call Hatton at 283-5684.

Prime rib dinner fundraiser slated

The Soldotna Senior Citizens Center will hold its fall round-up fundraiser at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 13 at the center. Prime rib dinner, live bluegrass and western music and door prizes are planned. Tickets are $22 for adults and $10 for children under 12 years of age. For reservations call, 262-2322.

Veterans picnic set to honor

The 10th annual Veterans picnic for veterans and their families will be held Sept. 20 at the bingo hall at American Legion Post No. 20. Food, kids games, door prizes and guest speakers are some of the planned events. For more information, call Tom Schanrock at 398-3030 or Wanda Taylor at 283-0830.

Chamber seeks green thumbs

The Kenai Chamber of Commerce and city of Kenai Parks and Recreation are requesting nominations for the Green Thumb Award.

Recipients of the award will be recognized for their beautification efforts at their residence and/or business in Kenai. Nominations should be submitted through the Kenai Chamber of Commerce or the Kenai Parks and Recreation Department and are being accepted through September. For more information, call 283-3692.
