Bird Homestead Golf Report: Big tournaments approach at Bird

Posted: Friday, August 22, 2008

Rain, rain, go away. Hello and welcome once again to the Bird Homestead Golf Course weekly column. The weather has been trying us a bit each day but just when you think you will get wet, the sun appears and it turns into a great round of golf.

Some great events coming up that I wanted to touch on. Aug. 30 is the Annual Fall Classic Tournament. This tournament is the "pick your own team" with great cash prizes as well as door prizes. There will be long drive and closest to prizes as well as a mystery team and of course the red lantern.

First place is cash along with dinner for the four winners and a partner at the Legends Lodge. Second and third place is also cash prizes. Stanley Ford is sponsoring a hole in one as well. No one has gotten one of those yet, it is past time, so come out and try to be the first one on this course. Registration is at 8 a.m., while 9 a.m. is the tee-off time.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included and all for a $70 entry fee. This event fills up fast, so give a call at 260-4653 or come on out to the course to sign up. If you want a power cart call now and get one reserved, they are going fast. Only 72 players get to enter, so get on board with this one.

Saturday is the Association Bird Birthday Appreciation Tournament. We try each year to show our appreciation to Elmer and Pat for their vision for this beautiful course. Tee off is at 1 p.m. This is a nine-hole event with fun and prizes afterward. Come out and enjoy.

Sunday at 2 p.m. is a gentleman's get-together. This is nine holes of fun and fellowship. It's $25 to play with proceeds going to an orphanage in Liberia. This is a great cause and a great day to golf. Call for more details at the pro shop, 260-4653.

Remember the new Miser Monday and the still running Thrifty Thursday. Great days to get a good deal on greens fees. The course has never played better. The greens and fairways are in great shape. So come on out and join in on some end-of-the-season superb golf.

A quick note of thanks to our groundskeepers. Great Job!

Don't forget men's night on Tuesdays. There were 16 men this past week. Come out and knock Roy out of the running. Seniors on Wednesdays also have been having some great turnouts.

Have a great week and I am looking forward to seeing you on the fairways.
