ANCHORAGE (AP) -- A $630,000 grant will help provide new rental homes for low-income and special needs families in Mountain Village.

The grant awarded by the Federal Home Loan Bank of Seattle will be used to provide 18 rental homes to the village of about 700 people in West Alaska.

The grant was submitted by First National Bank, Alaska's largest Alaskan-owned and operated bank, in support of The Asa'carsarmiut Tribal Council's Affordable Housing Program. The project was one of 29 selected from 135 applications in an eight-state region.

Eight homes were delivered to the village by barge in July. The project is expected to be completed in spring 2002.
