Longtime Kenai resident Donald Regan (Donnie) Morgan died unexpectedly Monday, Aug. 20, 2001, at his home in Kenai. He was 52.
A celebration of life will start at 2 p.m. Friday at the Kenai Golf Course.
Mr. Morgan was born Nov. 15, 1948, in Los Angeles to Richard and Shirley Morgan. He moved with his family in 1952 to Kenai. He graduated from Kenai Central High School in 1967. He then attended welding school and joined his brothers in the family business, Morgan Steel. He remained a partner in the business even though he began volunteering for the Kenai Fire Department and later made it a career. Mr. Morgan worked his way through the ranks, becoming Kenai's fire marshal and then assistant fire chief. He worked for the Kenai Fire Department for 20 years before retiring in 1996. He then began working at the Kenai Golf Course.
Mr. Morgan received many awards in public safety for his role in training programs, fire prevention programs and building pride in the department.
Mr. Morgan enjoyed golf, bowling, trap shooting, the Moose Lodge, the firefighter's association and the Kenai Golf Association.
His family wrote, "His family was his strength. He loved life, the Kenai Fire Department, the Kenai Golf Course and most of all his family and friends."
His wife, Carol, said, "He is the love of my life."
Mr. Morgan is survived by his wife of 32 years, Carol Anne; daughter, Julie Morgan; son, Steven Morgan; grandson, Jaymes Carter; his parents, Dick and Shirley Morgan; brother, Shane Morgan and his wife, Joy; and brother, Wade Morgan; niece, Nikki Morgan; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law living in Alaska and the Lower 48.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Kenai Firefighters Association, 105 S. Willow St., Kenai, AK 99611.
