Course gets a bunker

Bird Homestead Golf Report

Posted: Tuesday, August 23, 2005

We want to thank Jackie Risch and Marylin Eskelin for continually coming out to play on our weekly Monday night Ladies Night.

Last week’s Men’s Night winning team consisted of Jeff Gillman, Dick Gallaway, John Brewer and myself. Dave Medley had long-drive honors and I captured closest to the pin on No. 8. Closest to the pin on No. 6 is still up for grabs. I’m not sure why No. 6 is so hard to hit. I do know that if it’s hit tonight, drinks will be on him!

Our maintenance staff consisting of Kellie Yates, Sissy Bird and Robert Partin were hard at work this last week putting in our first bunker. You will find our bunker to have some of the highest quality sand in the state. Our bunker is located on the tough 330-yard, dog-leg right No. 7. The season is almost over, so hurry out to the course and see for yourself what everyone is talking about.

I will be going back home on Aug. 30. Call the golf shop about information on golf lessons. If you are going to be in the Palm Springs, Calif., area and would like get info on where to play and/or golf lessons, e-mail me at briancupit@hotmail.com.

The Bird Homestead Golf Course is located at Mile 12 on Funny River Road.
