Roy A. "Pops" Smith

Homer resident Roy A. "Pops" Smith died Friday, Aug. 18, 2000, at his home in Homer of natural causes. He was 56.

Memorial services will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 25, at the Elks Lodge in Homer.

Mr. Smith was born April 27, 1944, in Syracuse, N.Y. He graduated from the University of Maine. He moved to Alaska in 1971, residing in Soldotna. He moved to Homer in 1972. He worked as a high school teacher and built log homes and furniture.

Mr. Smith was an active supporter of wrestling programs on the Kenai Peninsula and was also a referee. He loved music and was a member of the "Homer Hoe-Downers."

His family wrote, "He will always be remembered for his vivid stories and open door."

Mr. Smith is survived by his son Clayton and daughter Stacey Smith, both of Homer; his aunt and uncle Rosemary and Howard Bridges and cousins, Stephanie Bridges and Charlotte White, all of Bucksport, Maine; and his uncle Roy Angell of Bayonet Point, Fla.

Arrangements were made by Homer Funeral Home.
