Phern and Lee Sells celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Friday, July 25, 2003, in Soldotna.
The couple met in high school and was married July 25, 1953, in Portland, Ore., after Lee returned from serving with the Naval Air Corps in Korea.
After being nightclub entertainers under the name of Black and Silver and cattle ranchers on the high desert of Eastern Oregon, the Sells came to Alaska in 1990 looking for a wilder, emptier place to live.
Lee is a published author of novels inspired by their lives on their ranch and in the rodeo.
Phern enjoys working in her flower garden and quilting.
The couple has seven children Tori and her family in Soldotna, Brent, Troy, Tracey, Lane and Ranee in Oregon and Chime in Powell, Wyo. They have 24 grandchildren.
