KPC hosts community barbecue

Kenai Peninsula College will host a welcome-back community barbecue from 4 to 7 p.m. today on the campus behind the Goodrich and McLane buildings. Free food and entertainment will be available.

Walk-in college registration will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 25 or register online at www.kpc.alaska.edu. The first day of classes will be held Monday. For more information, call 262-0330.

Food bank fundraiser planned

The Kenai Peninsula Food Bank will hold its 10th annual Soup Supper and Auction at 5:30 p.m. Saturday in the cafeteria at Kenai Central High School. The cost is $40. Tickets are available at the food bank.

Volunteers also are needed for the event. For more information, call 262-3111.

School supplies sought

Blessings Galore, a nonprofit clothing closet, is holding a back-to-school drive for school supplies. Donations of backpacks, glue (sticks and regular), scissors, pens, pencils, notebooks (spiral and binders), socks (all sizes), underwear (packaged), notebook paper, erasers, rulers, etc., will be given out free of charge to families who are in need. Items may be dropped off between 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at College Heights Baptist Church at 44440 Kalifornsky Beach Road in Soldotna.
