Kenai resident Ernest J. Lucas died Thursday, April 17, 2008 at his home in Kenai. He was 65.
Memorial services will be 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29, at the V.F.W. Post 10221 in Anchor Point. Jim Dress will officiate at the service. Military honors will be provided by the V.F.W. Post 10221. Honor guard will be Mike Youngman, Bill Hagerty, Ray Rozak, Lynn Schmidt and Andy Boyle.
Mr. Lucas was born Nov. 11, 1942 in Solano County, Calif. He graduated from high school and had also taken many military and civil service specialty courses.
He served in the U.S. Army from Nov. 1964 to July 1967. He was awarded the Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, VietNam Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and RVN Campaign Medal with three stars. He had worked at Mare Island Naval Base for the Civil Service from 1970 until retiring in 1992. He moved to Alaska in May 1993 and lived in Kasilof, Anchor Point and Kenai.
He was a member of the Brethren Church in Soldotna and enjoyed fishing, motorcycles and hot rods.
Mr. Lucas was preceded in death by two wives. He is survived by his daughter, Rhonda Lucas of Seattle.
