Lifetime Alaskan Leonard "Joey" Norman died Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2000, on the family homestead north of Nikiski. He was 53.
Memorial services will be held at a later date.
Mr. Norman was born on Feb. 25, 1947, to Leonard and Betty Norman in Anchorage. He was raised out north on Daniels Lake on the homestead, where later in life he built his home next to where the old homestead sat. He served in the National Guard with six years of active duty. His love for his place kept him home except for his work. Mr. Norman worked at Prudhoe Bay building ice roads in the winter. He was retired out of the Local 302 Operating Engineers. He was well known for his talent of running heavy equipment and fast cars. He married Sallie Card, of Sterling, in 1970.
His family wrote, "Joey will be truly missed by friends and family."
Mr. Norman is survived by his daughter, Dana M. Norman and his grandson Chris, both of Kenai; his mother Betty Johnson, of Holy Cross; his sister, Carol F. Joy, of Anchorage; his brother, Bucko Norman, of Ninilchik, and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Arrangements were made by Peninsula Memorial Chapel.
