Kenai Public Health offers immunizations

The Kenai Public Health Center will hold immunization clinics from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 to 4 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Kenai Public Health also will hold immunization clinics in Soldotna from 1:30 to 4 p.m. on Thursdays at the Elks Lodge at 44560 Parkway. For more information, call 335-3400.

Winter games work session delayed

The work session scheduled for 7 p.m. today between the city of Kenai and members of the Arctic Winter Games Host Society has been pushed back until 8 p.m. For more information, call Carol at 283-7335.

Old-timers reunion planned

The annual old-timers reunion will be held Thursday at the Kenai Senior Citizens Center. Soup and salad will be served at 11:30 a.m. and a turkey meal will follow at noon. The cost is $4. Preregistration is helpful but not required. Music, visiting and memorials are some of the planned activities. For more information, call Donnis Thompson at 776-8721.

Open sew set

The Kenai Peninsula Quilt Guild will host an open sew from noon to 10 a.m. Thursday at the Christ Lutheran Church near the "Y" in Soldotna. The public is invited. For more information contact Jan at 262-5098.

Basketball registration begins

The Boys and Girls Club is accepting registrations for its first- and second-grade co-ed basketball league through Friday. The season will run Sept. 13 through Oct. 30. The cost is $50 and participants must be current Boys and Girls Club members. Registration forms may be downloaded at

Forms can be dropped off at the center from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, faxed in with credit card number or mailed in with a postmark of Friday. Scholarships are available. For more information, call 283-2682.

'Tonka' fund-raiser slated

The Kenai Rotary Club in conjunction with Industry Appreciation Day will host a "Big Tonkas on the Bluff" fund-raiser from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Millennium Square next to the soccer fields and the Kenai Senior Citizens Center. Area children will have the opportunity to ride on working heavy equipment. There also will be a few static displays of heavy equipment.

The cost is $5 to ride. Proceeds will support Rotary-sponsored scholarships and other community-based aid projects. For more information, call Linda Snow at 262-8222.

Kenai River group to meet

The Kenai River Working Group will meet from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Kenai River Center on Funny River Road. The group was appointed last spring by Department of Natural Resources Commissioner Tom Irwin. Its job is to help DNR develop a more effective program for managing commercial activities on the Kenai River, including the possibility of limiting the number of river guides and other commercial operators on the river.

The group consists of 14 members who were chosen to represent the various effected parties.
