Classes began Tuesday in most Kenai Peninsula Borough School District schools, though some kindergartners will start school Monday.
There will be no school Sept. 6, due to Labor Day.
Kindergarten through second-grade students will take the DIBELS-CBM assessments, which evaluate basic reading skills, between Sept. 2 and 17, while many kindergartners also will be evaluated with the Kindergarten Development Profile between Sept. 2 and Oct. 15.
The next meeting of the school board will be Sept. 13 at 7 p.m. at the assembly chambers in the Borough Building in Soldotna.
In other school-related news, Sheila-Margaret Pothast, coordinator of the district's Aspirations mentoring program, will speak at the Soldotna Chamber of Commerce meeting at noon Tuesday at the Riverside House restaurant.
