Car seat checkup today

Safe Kids Kenai Peninsula and Central Peninsula General Hospital will hold free car seat checkup at the Soldotna Fire Department from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. today. For more information, call 714-4539.

Food bank fundraiser planned

The Kenai Peninsula Food Bank will hold its 10th annual Soup Supper and Auction at 5:30 p.m. Saturday in the cafeteria at Kenai Central High School. The cost of admission is $40. Tickets are available at the food bank.

Sorority to celebrate anniversary

The Beta Sigma Phi of the Central Peninsula will celebrate the 75th anniversary of its organization from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Etta Mae Near’s home at 37305 Lancashire Lane in Soldotna. The reunion is open to past and present members. Participants may bring scrapbooks to share. For more information, call 260-6401.

Used book sale set

The Soldotna Public Library volunteers will hold a used book sale from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. The library is seeking donations of books, magazines, paperback books and puzzles in good condition.

LeeShore board meeting slated

The LeeShore Center will hold its monthly board meeting at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in its conference room, 325 S. Spruce St. in Kenai. The public is invited. For more information, call 283-9479.

Head Start begins enrollment

Sterling Head Start next to Cook’s Tesoro on the Sterling Highway is accepting applications for its preschool program. School begins Sept. 5. Fish fry fundraiser planned

The Peninsula Moose Lodge will host a fish fry fundraiser from 5 to 8 p.m. Sept. 6 at the lodge. Proceeds will benefit Bill Dillon who lost everything in a fire. Salmon, halibut, salad and bread will be served. For more information and cost of dinner, call Carolyn Roller at 283-9181.

Teen writers sought

The Clarion is seeking students from Nikiski, Kenai, Skyview and Soldotna high schools interested in writing for its Verbatim column. The column is designed to let teens voice their opinions on topics of interest to them — school, family life, dating, politics, etc.

Students in grades nine through 12 are eligible to submit a writing sample. The column length is 500 words minimum, 700 words maximum. Send a writing sample to schools@peninsulaclarion.com.
