Company's contribution shows its commitment to young people

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Unocal of Kenai for allowing the Kenai Central High School football team to use the Unocal barbecue for their recent team and family get-together.

Having a barbecue that could quickly and efficiently cook large volumes of food made the process of feeding 300 or so people in attendance much easier.

A special thank you goes out to Unocal employee, Chris Myers, for arranging for the use of the barbecue, transporting it to and from the barbecue site, and for cooking the hamburgers and hotdogs.

Once again, thank you to Unocal of Kenai for its generosity and obvious interest in the most valuable asset of our community -- the young kids.

Kenai youth says thanks

as he prepares for college

I am leaving for my first year of college soon. Before I go, I would like to thank many special people who made my years growing up in Kenai such great ones.

A big thank you to all the teachers and coaches who spent time and energy being demanding, creative and encouraging. I consider many of them friends and will miss them a lot. I am confident that the educational, athletic and social foundations that I formed in Kenai will serve me well as I go on to college and the rest of my life.

Having just finished the baseball season with the American Legion Post 20 Twins, I would also like to take this opportunity to acknowledge their support. I will always have great memories of summer baseball. Thanks to the coaches, other players, parents and especially those businesses and organizations that financially support this program. I am especially grateful to Doors and Windows for its sponsorship of me over the past three seasons.

Kenai will always be home. I am taking part of it with me wherever I go.
