Area chambers set schedule

Chambers of commerce speakers for the upcoming week include:

The Soldotna Chamber of Commerce will meet at noon Tuesday at the Riverside House. Sheila Potash will speak on the Aspiration Advocates Mentor Program. For more information, call Shanon Hamrick at 262-9814.

Brenda Ahlberg of the Boys and Girls Club of the the Kenai Peninsula will speak on city of Kenai "Project Protect" at the Kenai Chamber of Commerce meeting at noon Wednesday at Paradisos. Lunch is $11. For more information, call 283-7989.

The Nikiski Chamber of Commerce has adjourned until September, when weekly chamber luncheons with speakers will resume on Thursdays at North Kenai Baptist Church.

Industry Day to be held Saturday

Industry Appreciation Day will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday on the green strip of lawn next to the baseball field on Main Street Loop in Kenai. The Kenai Peninsula Tourism and Marketing Council sponsors the annual event in appreciation of the oil and gas, commercial fishing and tourism industries. Complimentary food and live music will be provided.

The festivities include a frozen salmon toss and a drawing for a trip for two to Las Vegas. Candidates for office are slated to compete in a "political" frozen salmon toss.

Raft trip offered to support land trust

Alaska Wildland Adventures is offering a rafting trip down the Kenai River on Labor Day (Sept. 6) to support Kachemak Heritage Land Trust. The trip from Kenai Lake to Skilak Lake passes through the Kenai River Canyon. Cost of the trip is $100 per person and includes lunch. Preregister by calling 235-5263.
