Basketball registration deadline today

Today is the final registration day for the Kenai Boys and Girls Club first- and second-grade basketball league. The season runs Sept. 12 through Oct. 29. The basketball fee is $50 and participants must be members of the Boys and Girls Club. Scholarships are available.

Registration forms may be downloaded off the Internet from and can be dropped off between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. through today. Forms also can be faxed to 283-8190 with a credit card number or mailed with today’s postmark.

SMS open house planned

Soldotna Middle School will hold an open house from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. Tuesday at the school. Hot dogs, chips and juice for immediate family members will be available.

Parents will be able to follow their student’s schedule, meet teachers and other staff members from 6:15-7:30 p.m.

Help for home day care providers

The LeeShore Center, formerly the Women’s Resource and Crisis Center, is a sponsor in the USDA child- and adult-care food program that is administered by the Alaska Department of Education and Early Development.

The same meals will be made available to enrolled children in each of its sponsored child-care homes, and it will be provided at no charge without regard to race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability. For more information or to enroll, call Jennette at 283-4707.

CES seeks volunteers

Central Emergency Service is seeking firefighter and emergency medical services volunteers for its Firefighter One Academy beginning Thursday. Recruits also are needed from the Kasilof and Funny River areas. Participants must be 18 to apply. For more information or to pick up an application, stop by CES Station 1 on the corner of South Binkley and the Sterling Highway.
