ANCHORAGE (AP) -- An Anchorage man was killed Monday afternoon when he was thrown from his motorcycle and then run over by a truck.

Anchorage police said Manuel Chavez Jr., 23, was trying to make a left turn off of Tudor Road, a major Anchorage artery, at about 2:15 p.m. As he entered the center turn lane, the bike hit the back of a van also making a left turn, police said.

The rider was thrown off the motorcycle and into the oncoming traffic lane. He was then hit by a truck hauling a portable building, killing him instantly, police reported.

Neither the driver of the truck nor the driver of the van were injured in the accident.

Tudor Road was closed for an hour after the incident.
