ANCHORAGE (AP) -- Ambulances and other emergency gear are being distributed to rural communities in Interior Alaska with money from a federal grant.

The new equipment was purchased with $628,000 from the Department of Agriculture's Rural Development office.

The state of Alaska, local communities, the Interior Region Emergency Services Council and the Rasmuson Foundation provided matching funds for some of the equipment.

Fort Yukon, Eagle, Nenana, North Pole, Tanana and Tok are getting ambulances. Galena, Kaltag, Koyukuk, McGrath, Mentasta, Northway, Nulato and Ruby are receiving defibrillators, cardiac monitors, and other rescue equipment.
