KETCHIKAN (AP) Ketchikan Gateway Borough Mayor Mike Salazar was arrested on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol.

The Ketchikan Police Department said Salazar, 62, was stopped about 2 a.m. Sunday after police received a report that he was driving the wrong way down Mission Street.

Police said they smelled alcohol on Salazar's breath and asked him to perform field sobriety tests and to provide a breath sample. The breath test indicated a blood alcohol level of .193 percent, police said.

It is illegal in Alaska to drive with a blood alcohol level of more than 0.08 percent.

Salazar did not immediately return calls for comment Tuesday afternoon from The Associated Press.
