ANCHORAGE (AP) Alaska state Rep. Carl Morgan Jr. of Aniak has been appointed to a national tribal college advisory board.
Morgan, a Republican, has served in the state House since 1998.
The President's Board of Advisors on Tribal Colleges and Universities oversees the federal government's interaction with colleges and universities established by Native American tribes.
Tribes run 32 colleges in 12 states, serving about 30,000 students from 250 tribes, according to the U.S. Department of Education.
President Bush created the 15-member advisory board in 2001.
Morgan, 53, served on the Aniak Traditional Council from 1990 to 2001 and as Aniak mayor from 1991 to 1996.
