North Star Elementary
Mrs. Zimmerman's fourth-fifth grade class at North Star Elementary will hold a car wash from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 6 at Burger King in Kenai. The proceeds will go toward a spring field trip.
Thanks to the many families who came to the open house Tuesday night. The Redoubt staff welcomes all students and parents to a new school year.
Kindergarten screening will be today through Friday. Kindergartners will start school at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 3. This delayed start time will apply to Sept. 3 only. Kindergarten classes will begin at 8:45 a.m. for the remainder of the school year.
A folder of important parent information will be sent home with students on the first day of school. Parents are asked to review this folder and sign and return forms as indicated. The school office can answer any questions. In addition to required forms, all parents are encouraged to complete and return a Federal Programs-Lunch Program application. Completion of this form assists the school whether or not the applicant participates in the free and reduced lunch program.
For the safety of students, parents are asked to review and follow the instructions for transporting students to and from school outlined in the student handbook. Students only may be dropped off and picked up at the curb in front of the building.
Connections would like to welcome everyone to an exciting new school year. It is currently enrolling kindergarten through 12th-grade students and space still is available. If you have not yet picked up your computer, it is ready.

Adviser assignments are Doug Hogue kindergarten through third grade on central peninsula and kindergarten through 12th grade in Seward and Hope; Natalie Kant, fourth through sixth grade, assessments and activities; Tanya Boedeker seventh through ninth grade, science and language specialist; Wendi Dutcher, 10th through 12th, math specialist; and Janet Szajkowski kindergarten through 12th grade, south peninsula.

Welcome to new and returning staff members Kevin Spence, principal; Mary Rowley, sixth grade; Steve Peterson, secondary; Elaine Agosti, receptionist; and Laurel Kytonen, part-time custodian.
High school retreats are Sept. 3 to 5. Junior high students will go to a Camp Fire USA facility in Cooper Landing and senior high to Birchwood Camp in Chugiak. The cost for senior high students is $45. These retreats are planned annually to help students and teachers grow closer.
Hot lunches from McDonald's are available on Tuesdays starting Sept. 9 and from Pizza Boys on Thursdays starting Sept. 11.

The cross country running teams started their seasons at the Skyview Invitational. Come support these dedicated athletes at their next meet in Seward on Saturday.
There will be no school on Labor Day.
