All Veterans picnic slated

A free picnic to honor all who have served in the military will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Kenai Park Strip on Main Street in Kenai. Activities planned are blood pressure checks, live music, VA reps on site to answer questions, door prizes, VAVs representatives, games for children.

Meet some of our disabled veterans

The public is invited to meet with members of the Paralyzed Veterans of America on Sept. 3 from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Challenger Learning Center of Alaska in Kenai.

The vets, from around the U.S., are visiting the Kenai Peninsula and participating in local fishing opportunities through a division of the PVA called the Outdoor Recreation Heritage Fund.

Skyview pool schedule announced

Lap swim from 6 to 7:30 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays;

Water exercise and lap swim from 7:30 to 10 a.m. Monday through Fridays; and

Open and lap swim from 5 to 6:45 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Admission is 4 per person or $35 For a punch card that has 10 punches

Teen center offers activities

The Nikiski Teen Center located at the Nikiski Community Rec. Center opened Aug. 23. Its hours are 2:30 to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday for teens ages 13 to 18 years old including open gym, video games, pool, foosball and more.

Transportation is available from Nikiski High School and yearly memberships are available.

Teen Night will be held Sept. 3 from 7 to 10 p.m., and includes open gym, air hockey, foosball, pool, ping-pong, video games, prizes, popcorn and more for teens ages 13 to 18 years old.

KPC plans community barbecue

The public is invited to KPC's Kenai River Campus in Soldotna for the annual free, community fall barbecue from 3:30 to 6 p.m. Sept. 2.

Activities will include live music, in front of the Goodrich and McLane buildings.

Students, student employees and the public can participate in a drawing for door prizes including KPC logo items. KPC staff and faculty are not eligible for the drawing.

There will be KPC pennants for the kids.

Nikiski pool closure planned

The Nikiski pools annual maintenance closure will be Sept. 6 through 27.

Pool winter hours beginning Sept. 28 will be Tuesdays through Thursdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and to 8 p,m,; Fridays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. with the waterslide all day Fridays,

Saturdays and Sundays from 1 to 5 p.m. and from 6 to 9 p.m. with the waterslide open both days.
