District schools closed Monday

There will be no school Monday in celebration of Labor Day. Classes will begin at normal time Tuesday.

Due to the holiday, the school board meeting normally held the first Monday of the month will be at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 9 in the assembly chambers of the Borough Building, 148 N. Binkley in Soldotna.

After the Bell program to start soon

The Boys and Girls Clubs of the Kenai Peninsula are once again offering After the Bell tutoring programs at several schools throughout the district.

Brochures for the program are available at participating schools and at the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Kenai Peninsula central office in Kenai.

The After the Bell program at Nikiski Elementary will begin Sept. 9. For more information, call Ann Holloway at 776-4132.

The After the Bell program at Soldotna Middle School will begin Tuesday, with registration open today and Thursday from 3 to 6 p.m. For more information, call Rosy Thompson at 398-2923.

For start dates and registration information for other After the Bell locations, call the Boys and Girls Club at 283-2682 or check with your child's school.

Training offered for substitute nutrition workers

The Kenai Peninsula Borough School District will offer a training session for individuals interested in working as a substitue with Student Nutrition Services.

The session will be from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sept. 11 in the borough assembly conference room on the first floor of the Borough Building at 148 N. Binkley St. in Soldotna.

Topics covered will include how to become a KPBSD substitute employee, school district handling, food handling and sanitation.

Employment applications will be available or can be picked up prior to training at the school district offices, also located in the Borough Building.
