ANCHORAGE (AP) A Fairbanks man was in custody Thursday following his arrest on a bank robbery charge.

Tadeusz Tomasic, 20, was arrested minutes after a Fairbanks credit union was held up Wednesday, the FBI said.

A masked robber entered the Northern Schools Teachers Federal Credit Union on Geist Road at about 1:45 p.m., FBI spokesman Eric Gonzalez said.

The robber demanded money but did not display or mention having a weapon. He fled after a teller handed over an undisclosed amount of cash.

Tomasic was wearing a mask when he was arrested shortly after in a nearby subdivision, Gonzalez said.

Tomasic was being held without bail at the Fairbanks Correctional Center.

The robbery was the third bank holdup in Alaska this year and the second this week, Gonzalez said.

An Anchorage credit union was robbed Tuesday. No one had been arrested in that case as of Thursday morning, but Gonzalez said authorities believe the same robber may have held up the same branch of the Alaska USA Federal Credit Union on Aug. 1.
