Dalton Highway to be closed for repairs

FAIRBANKS (AP) -- The Dalton Highway, from Mile 111 to Mile 144, will be closed for several days during the next month as construction crews work on the road and repair bridges damaged by flooding.

The 414-mile highway is the road link to Prudhoe Bay and communities in the Brooks Range. Rain-swollen rivers on the North Slope washed out several sections of the highway two weeks ago.

In a travel advisory issued Wednesday, the state Department of Transportation said the construction will be going on seven days a week until mid-September. The road will be closed Aug. 31, Sept. 4, 7, 10, 12, and 14.

Drivers should also be prepared for one-lane traffic and short delays, the advisory said.

For current closure information, call the DOT 24-hour hot line at (888) 401-5120.
